When you put your makeup on, the most common implication is that you’re engaging in a frivolous activity, you are vain and you are a narcissist. Well, I can honestly say that notion is WRONG! It has been studied and proven that your beauty rituals and routine will ease your anxiety!

Your Beauty Routine gives you a feeling of calmness and induces a sense of control. This is because practices, like your beauty routine, the more steps there are, the more repetition of procedures, and the more the time is specified , the bigger the impact.
Habitual behaviors help us clear our minds.
Our brains find logic and perceive higher levels of efficacy in things we do routinely, or several times over! Research shows that Your Makeup Routine encourages you to Focus.
And the best way to soothe anxiety is to perform tasks that call for focus and creativity.

Anxiety usually comes from our concerns over an anticipated event, or ruminating thoughts about something from the past.
Our Beauty Rituals, like applying eye liner, lip liner, mascara, and even polishing our nails, calls for us to stay focused and remain in the present!!!!!!!

Anxiety comes from the fear of the unknown and a feeling of lack of control. A daily routine creates a state of normalcy where the outcome is expected!

When applying your skincare and makeup, you are very much in control!

Your Makeup and Beauty Rituals can minimize the triggers ( processes are triggered when you are over analyzing). It results in Self-blame or worrying about a potential negative outcome.

When you do something that is pleasurable or productive, your mind becomes focused on positive activity.

You are no longer dwelling on negative thoughts. If you enjoy your makeup/skincare routine, and you enjoy applying your products, then you will make associations that are positive, which will help your anxious mind quiet down.

Aromatherapy helps reduce anxiety and depression. Any time you engage your senses, your anxiety will be soothed.

Soothing scents in your products, Lavender, Rose, Coconut, Sweet Orange, and Jasmine, are great therapeutic options.

Look for products with therapeutic scents.

Your makeup and skincare rituals can stimulate your brain. Showing in the morning, especially a cold shower, can stimulate a part of the brain called locus coeruleus.
This is where the chemical that fosters depression and anxiety is formed.

Another factor that will stimulate your brain that goes along with applying your makeup is natural light.
The best place to apply makeup is near a window or in a well lit area.
Exposure to light triggers a region in the brain that allows you to better handle anxiety-induced experiences.

Your makeup and skincare rituals foster mindfulness. Self-care practices are important and effective in treating anxiety.

Rituals like washing your face, massaging your skin, and applying makeup foster an overall mindfulness towards yourself and your feelings.

Taking care of your skin and applying your makeup will in turn take care of your mind!
