Real Techniques Prep & Prime Brush Set

FaceSkincare

One of the ways we can protect ourselves from the COVID 19, is to not touch our face with our hands. Recently, I was wandering around Ulta, (in the days when we could go out), and I ran across a unique brush set.  Unique, because it never dawned on me to use brushes to prep the skin before makeup.  Have you?  So, I purchased the Real Techniques Prep & Prime Brush Set.  Next, Randi (my BFF, and Youtube partner) and I made a first impressions Youtube about them.  At the time, I don’t think we appreciated the hygienic aspect of them.IMG_6686

However, now that we are knee deep in the COVID 19 virus, I am having second thoughts.  The reason is, not only are we in isolation, we are terrified that we could become infected.  One of the top things we can do to take precautions is, not touch our face.  So, what do you do when you want to put your serums and moisturizers on?

Now, the Real Techniques Prep & Prime Brush Set is starting to look better and better.  So, I have been trying them out.  And, I had an epiphany!  Sam and Nic from Real Techniques were brilliant for creating the Prep & Prime Set!  Read on to find out why.

You can find the Real Techniques Prep & Prime Brush Set at Ulta, and on the Real Techniques Website.  The set costs $19.99.

First things first, the Prep & Prime Brush Set comes packaged in a see-through plastic box.  Inside, there is a plastic board, with spaces to slip each of the brushes in.

Furthermore, each brush has a glue sticker on it, that holds the brush onto the board.IMG_6700

Moreover, the brushes are sleek, and modern-looking.  First, they have long black bottoms, that feel like rubber.  Attached to the bottom, is a chrome handle.  Each handle has the brand name on one side, and the brush description on the other side.  Finally, three of the brushes have synthetic bristles.  Then, the fourth brush isn’t a brush at all.  Instead, it is a stationary, aluminum roller ball.

First, consider this Facial Cleaning Brush, an exfoliator.  The synthetic bristles are tightly packed together.  At first, you would think the brush would be flat.  Well, it’s not!  In fact, the brush is textured.  Three round bumps are in the center of the brush.  The bumps are raised, like the rest of the brush was cut flat, leaving these three bumps.  As a result, the bumps help you get into hard to reach areas of your face.  Even though the brush bristles are firm, and densely packed, it still feels soft on your skin.  Miraculously, it did make my skin feel really soft.IMG_6716

To start with, you can use the brush dry.  In this way, you can gently exfoliate your skin.  Moreover, the white brush sweeps away dead skin cells.  As a result, your face really does feel softer and smoother.  It really works.  Another thing the Facial Cleansing Brush will do for your skin is get the blood moving in your face.  Therefore, it stimulates your skin.  Another thing you can do is dampen the brush, and brush in a mild cleanser.  Then, wipe the cleanser off of your face with a damp washcloth.

Similar to the Facial Cleansing Brush, although teeny tiny, the bristles are compact and densely packed.  Although, unlike the Facial Cleansing Brush, the Lip Smoothing Brush has a flat top.  Furthermore, the brush feels much firmer than the facial brush.  In fact, the bristles are rougher, and scratchier.  IMG_6747The brush almost reminds me of an emory board that files your nails.  When at first I used the brush, I thought it was eh.  However, it works.  And, your lips feel smooth.

To start, put a lip balm on your lips.  Then, using the brush, make gentle, circular motions on your lips.  The lip balm helps loosen the dry cells, and the brush takes the dry cells off. IMG_6748 You can also use a lip exfoliator, in place of the lip balm.  Although, the lip balm does a really great job with the firm bristles, scrubbing the dead skin cells off.  Again, it takes longer than you think, to scrub the dead skin off your lips. IMG_6749 One reason is, the brush is really small.  However small it is, it is mighty.

Next, the Prep Brush reminds me of a great, flat foundation brush.  In fact, you probably could use the brush to apply your foundation.  However, this brush was intended to brush on your face serums, moisturizers, and primers.  Even more, it is a great tool to apply messy face masks.  I fell in love with this brush, the second time around, because it feels luxurious.  In a way, it makes you feel special.  You’ll see.

How To Use The Prep BrushIMG_6727

First, use a spatula, or the brush, to get the product you want to use.  You don’t want to touch the product with your bare hands during this COVID 19 Pandemic.  Then, brush your serums, moisturizers, and primers on, as you would your foundation.  For one thing, it isn’t as quick as it would be if you used your fingers.  However, it is sanitary.  Moreover, it saves you more product than if you were using your fingers.  For one thing, your fingers are sucking up a lot of the product.  Hence, synthetic bristles don’t suck up nearly the amount of product that your fingers do.  IMG_6729Even more, it is great to apply messy facial masks.  Also, if you are like me, and you are applying products to someone else, it is safer than using your fingers.  The reason is it is hygienic.

It will give you a great, cooling under eye massage.  Also, it will help with under eye puffiness.  Finally, it is a great way to give your under eye a great, cooling massage, while you are applying under eye serums, and moisturizers. IMG_6740 So, you will get the benefit of a massage, and the benefit of your eye creams.

My Final Thoughts On The Real Techniques Prep & Prime Brush Set…….IMG_6686

To begin with, the Prep &Prime Set turned out to be more useful than I first thought.  Just goes to show, you judge something or someone with a first impression.  Moreover, two weeks ago, when we made our video, the Corona Virus wasn’t even here.  How things change.  One minute everything is fine with the world.  The next minute, we are all living in a nightmare.  The good thing is, we have each other’s backs.  Besides washing your hands every five seconds, it is important to keep everything clean and sanitary.

PSIMG_6700

You know we are all so busy with makeup, makeup applications, makeup brushes, sometimes we forget about the things we do before we put on our makeup.  And, those things are just as important as our makeup application is.  But, now we have to be extra careful.  It may take a little longer, but in the end, it is worth it.  Plus, I have enjoyed using these tools with my skincare.  I think you will too.  We have all the time in the world, so why not try to pamper yourself a little bit.

Let me know what you think in the comments below.  Stay healthy, stay safe!
