Hourglass Curator Eyeshadow Collection What’s The Deal?

Do you have lots of eyeshadow palettes?  Do you have eyeshadow palettes with more than five shades. fso, do you use all the shades in those super-sized palettes?  I surely do not use even half of the shades in those big, expensive palettes.  Hourglass Cosmetics has always been committed t be a cruelty free brand.  Yet, they still used animal-derived ingredients in their products.

In 2020 Hourglass Cosmetics made a big change, becoming completely vegan, meaning that aside from the fact that no animals are used for testing, the ingredients used in the makeup and tools are free of animal products as well. As a result, their formulas have been reinvented. Even more, the brand has become more environmentally conscious.  As a result, the Hourglass Curator Eyeshadow Collection is cruelty free, vegan, and environmentally conscious.  Plus, you are the curator, you customize your own eyeshadow palette.

The Curator Eyeshadow Collection come in 40 shades.  The shades come in four finishes : matte, satin, metallic, and shimmer. The eyeshadows go in one of three refillable palettes, either one pan, three pans, or five pans.  The refillable palettes are supposed to reduce waste.

You can find the Hourglass Curator Eyeshadow Collection at Sephora,Space N.K., Neiman Marcus and on the Hourglass Cosmetics Website. Also, the single pan costs $10.  The 3 pan palette costs $12. The five pan palette costs $16.  An eyeshadow single ( 0.03 oz. / 1g ) costs $29.

Packaging

Hourglass packaging for the Curator Eyeshadow Collection is now environmentally conscious. The brand wants you to reduce waste. Also, each case is crafted from sleek, gold tin and post-consumer recycled plastic.  In fact, the waste reduction per one single pan palette is 1 plastic bottle. Per 3 pan palette is 2 1/2 plasticbottles, and per 5 pan palette is 5 plastic bottles. The palettes’ design intended for the palette to be reused. Or, you are supposed to keep it as a keepsake.

The Palettes are refillable, which means you are meant to  take out shade, and add new shades, whenever you want.  Reuse the palette!!  The eyeshadow singles have a magnet that is designed to  be used with the Hourglass Curator Eyeshadow Palette.  The pan the eyeshadow comes in is made from recycled aluminum.  Finally, you can easily remove the eyeshadow from the palette. First, to add an eyeshadow, simply snap the eyeshadow pan into the well in the case. To remove an eyeshadow from the case, gently press on the tp edge of the eyeshadow, in a downward motion, and push towards you til it pops out.

Formula

The eyeshadows have a pressed powder formula, where the powders are finely milled.  The texture of each shade is silky smooth and creamy.  As a result the shades are easy to blend, and easy to layer.  The formula is talc-free. The Highly pigmented shades deliver long-wearing, saturated colors.  The high performance shadows are vegan and cruelty free.

The four finishes are matte, satin, metallic, and shimmer. The matte shades have a rich, velvet matte finish, that delivers an intense color payoff, with one or two swipes. The Satin shades have a creamy satin finish with a subtle luminosity. The Metallics have intense color with a molten-metal effect. Last, the Shimmers have a multidimensional, reflective, pearlescent finish.

The Shades

The 40 pressed powder shades give you lots of options!

There is a vast selection of neutral shades.

And, there are lots of incredible vibrant shades!  All you need to do is choose and design your palette. I stared and stared at all the shades. I went to Meredith at Sephora, my favorite makeup artist, who helped me choose five shades.

Primarily, I wanted more neutrals, but I did want a pop of color. And, a matte or two for definition, and lots and lots of shimmer and metallics.

MY Final Thoughts

I have always loved Hourglass Cosmetics. Their Ambient  Universe Unlocked and all their Ambient Powders are amazing. Recently, they came out with skincare.  So far, I have been hooked on their new Equilibrium Intense Serum Eye Balm!  Now, after wanting to try the new Hourglass Curator Eyeshadow shades and palettes, I finally went to Sephora, after a year and a half of not going anywhere, thanks to Covid19, I got to see the shades in person.  Thankfully, my favorite makeup artist, and friend, is still there.  Meredith knows me and what I like more than I know me and what I like,so she helped me pick my top five!  Mostly neutrals, with a pop of color, and lots of shimmer!  I love my curated palette.  I love that the palettes and shades are customizable, refillable, with travel-friendly packaging, and vegan.

I have to give Hourglass a lot of credit.  They went cruelty free, and totally vegan.  They had to change their formulas.  They also are environmentally conscious, and created packaging with recycled plastic, used minimally, and tin to create keepsake items that won’t end up in landfills.  I Love the formula for the eyeshadows.  I love the shades.  I love the concept of curated eyeshadow palettes.  Also, I love that the brand went totally vegan, and are using sustainable packaging. Also I Love the idea that I will actually use all five shades  in my new palette!

Of course, my palette, 5 shades at $29 each, plus the $16 palette, equals. $145 for just the shades ( and there are only 5 of them!) which costs more than a Pat McGrath $125 palette with ten shades!  Plus ,when I add the palette for $16, the palette ended up costing me $161.  Now, let’s say by Spring, I’ll want five spring shades.  It will still cost $145 for the five shades, only I don’t need the $16 palette. Still a lot of money for five eyeshadows!  That is my only complaint!  It costs a lot of money for what it is.

xoxo

Also, a special thank you to Hourglass for the three pictures I used to show you what the other palettes look like, and what the 40 shades look like!  I appreciate it, I used the photos for the purpose of explaining the New Curator Collection!
