Urban Decay X Basquiat was a ginormous collection that included a gorgeous blush palette (to read about it click here), and three lipsticks, (to read about them click here) and the rest of the collaboration, two eye shadow Palettes in Tenant and Gold Griot, ($39 each), and Three Hot Eyeliner pencils in Anatomy, Vivid, and Post Punk ( $20 each).
The Collaboration between Urban Decay and Jean-Michel Basquiat began when the Basquiat family approached Urban Decay to do a makeup collection inspired by the great twentieth century artist, Jean Michel Basquiat, who began his work in New York City as a Graffiti artist. He became popular in the 1980’s art world, among the other greats, such as Andy Wharhol. They were friends before Basquiat passed away. He left behind his iconic works, paintings and drawings still exhibited all over the world. Urban Decay created this unbelievable collection , inspired b y the colors Basquiat used in his paintings ( which, like Urban Decay itself, was out of the box!). To celebrate his artwork, Urban Decay “wrapped their packaging in artist canvas, with famous paintings by the artist himself , adorning the boxes (every square inch of them!)
Look closely to the backs of the two eye shadow palettes in the collection. Each has a cutout near the top (middle) of both palettes, that are there for you to hang your canvas wrapped mini Basquiat reproduction painting from a picture hook. The idea is for you to have your own mini Basquiat art collection. There is a cutout to hang the blush palette as well.
The Gold Griot Palette is the more neutral of the two. Included in both eye shadow palettes is a double-sided brush to apply the eye shadows, use the fluffier side to put the pigments on your lids, and the flatter, stiffer side is great for lining your eyes with the shadows, and more intricate shading.
The back of the palettes, the back of the packaging, the sides, the corners, no spot is left uncovered.
The shades are :
Enigma – a neutral pale nude matte
Levitation – a warm pale nude matte
Not For Sale – a medium sienna matte
sucker punch – a warm brown shimmer
Influence – a brown satin with gold shimmer
BK – a grey matte satin
Pseudonym a deep navy matte
Crown – a very metallic gold
I love the plastic black crown on the palette, it is the opening “catch”.

The Tenant Eye Shadow Palette is the bright shades. They were all based on Basquiat’s colors that he used in his paintings.
The Tenant Shades are :
Studio – a pale pink matte
1960 – a bright pink matte
Neo – a rich aubergine micro shimmer
Les – a charcoal black matte/satin
graffiti – a deep metallic green
Exu – a bright green shimmer
Boom – a bright teal matte
Untitled – a rich deep blue matte
If you look at the bottom right corner of the mirror, you will see one of Basquiat’s most recognizable images, that of a crown.
You can see the “canvas” texture of the palette. There was no stone left unturned in this collection. Basquiat’s art is the celebration of this Collection and it is everywhere, in the names of the shades, in the colors themselves, I think Urban Decay outdid themselves and gave us a real feeling about Jean Michel Basquiat, the painter, the outcast, the man who challenged the status quo of the art world.
The pencil shades are bright, fun and hot for the summer! 
They all go perfectly with the eye shadow palettes in this collection, or with just about anything else you have that is bright and fun!

I have always been a huge fan of Basquiat’s powerful, statement- making artwork. I have also been a huge fan of Urban Decay, who are ahead of the times in the makeup world. The collaboration not only works, it is brilliant. If you collect palettes, this one is for you! If you collect Basquiat’s this is your palette too! If you just love the outstanding Collection because it is, well, it is OUTSTANDING, Genius, And So Creative – you really do have to have it!
