Oh what fun I had meeting the Queen of Green Skincare, Tata Harper, at Neiman Marcus in King of Prussia on Friday afternoon. Merribeth, my amazing makeup and skincare expert, my go-to for everything makeup and skin related at Neiman Marcus, had phoned me ahead of time to see if I was interested in participating in the Tata Harper event. Of course I couldn’t not be a part of such an exciting day. I was grateful that Merribeth had phoned to remind me the day before, or I would have missed the whole thing, because I had thought the event was a week away! Sometimes I just don’t know where my head’s at! I switched some plans and called Bikini, my future daughter in law (can’t wait til the big day) to come share the event with me, but she couldn’t make it! Sylvie wanted to come, being my blog partner and all, but she has the attention span of a sand flea and can be really distracting if I am not giving all my attention to her, so I didn’t think it was practical to bring her! She is still my puppy, after all!
O.K., I went by myself, reported in with Merribeth who escorted me upstairs to an area in the store that was set up for the event! It looked amazing!
There were snacks being served, Prosecco in wine glasses, and water passed to all who were attending the Masterclass! We all took a seat. We were all given, what turned out to be, the most delicious green mini drink.
After a few minutes Tata Harper, in the flesh, came to the front of the class. She is gorgeous , she had her hair up in a bun, and she was dressed in a pretty and fashionable white dress. She had on the coolest shoes, white with big square clunky heels covered in silver sparkles! Wow! Very tres chic!
Tata told us a little bit about herself and why she became a pioneer, the first ever, to create a skincare line that was free of synthetics and toxic substances. Her stepfather had gotten skin cancer, and the doctor wanted his personal products brought in to investigate the ingredients in them, to decide what he could and couldn’t use. It turned out that everything product was really toxic, full of synthetic substances, and those products were off limits to him. Tata looked everywhere for similar products that didn’t contain synthetics. And nowhere could she find any, because, she began to realize, they didn’t exist. Even products that stated they were natural, she discovered, were still mixed with synthetic ingredients. There is a term for products that are combinations of natural, and synthetic, and sold as natural products. It is called Green Washing. Face it, synthetic ingredients are cheaper, and Tata’s natural alternatives can be up to 8 x the price! Products made with synthetic preservatives have a much longer shelf life, and may be on shelves for years before they end up in your bathroom! Instead of emulsifying with battery acids, Tata emulsifies with sugars and olive waxes.
Tata was an industrial engineer who became a pioneer, a green skincare aficionado. She was determined to change her lifestyle and create skincare products that were good for you, all natural, with no additives or synthetics! Tata realized that lifestyle influences health. She also learned why synthetics were used in skincare products. Synthetic ingredients are what make products work. Preservatives are necessary to give products a long shelf-life. Emulsifiers are needed to mix oil and water together to make a product work. But these synthetics included horrendous ingredients like battery acids. If we knew we were putting battery acids on our skin would we use the product?
It took her four years, but her Tata Harper Skincare Line is completely green, free of toxins, and synthetics. The line contains only clinically high quality ingredients from her farm in Vermont, and from forty eight different countries. Her serums contain 29-30 active ingredients. She involves scientists from all over the world to incorporate worldwide technology in all her products. The products are made by hand in her lab, in small batches, which is on her farm in Vermont. The products yield a healthy turnover, and they last one full year after you open them. You can be assured her products are always super fresh. The products are filled at the farm, packaged on the farm, and distributed from the farm!

In front of us was a vibrant green “hatbox” that was designed with a mirror, and compartments that held sponges, q-tips, and tissues, everything we needed for our facials. Also included was a pink and white checkered head wrap. We all put them on to begin our facials.
Next to each hatbox was a pink bowl filled with water. This was our “sink” to rinse off the products.
Tata feels that the best way to deal with aging is a daily regime that will keep up with the accumulation of cells and with the loss of moisture on our skin. First, Tata believes it is necessary to double cleans the skin. This is actually how the Korean Beauty Regime begins. In both cases, Tata’s and K-Beauty’s, they both start off with Double Cleansing. Part one of Double Cleansing is to use on oil to remove your makeup (oil attracts the oil in makeup),
We were all given two quirts of Tata Harper’s Cleansing and Nourishing Oil. We massaged it into our faces. The Nourishing Cleansing Oil :
- cleanses while providing vitamins and nutrients
- removes makeup without stripping the skin
- moisturizes the skin and preserves it’s natural hydration
- apply to dry skin
- made with bio-compatible oils and esters
We wiped the makeup off with the sponges and tissues in our boxes, then we received two pumps of Tata Harper’s Regenerating Cleanser which :
- is a gentle chemical and physical exfoliating cleanser
- leaves the skin supple and moisturized
- it has no stripping detergent
- it minimizes the appearance of pores
- it deeply cleans the skin
- apply it to dry skin
- good for all skin types
Tata suggests in the morning to exfoliate with her Regenerating Cleanser to get rid of the dead cells.
Resurfacing Mask :
- a facial in a bottle that
- gives an amazing instant glow
- minimizes pores
- minimizes redness
- fights breakouts and blackheads
So we each put this cleanser on our skin, and then she taught us a trick. The trick was to layer her Resurfacing Mask on top of the Regenerating cleanser to let the two products work together. Tata used the term Multi-masking to get the benefit of a few different products all at once. I believe she differs from K-Beauty with respect to multi-masking. The K-Beauty system is more interested in treating (targeting) one concern at a time.
We rinsed our masks off, and Tata introduced us to her three Aromatherapy roller balls. We each got to pick either “Stress”, “Irritability”, or “Bedtime.” I chose “Stress.” She wanted us to inhale deeply five times, and sit back and relax. She taught us that our nose has a direct connection to the part of our brain that deals with feelings. After we practiced some aromatherapy self-love, we moved on to our next step.
No, not toner. Once again, Tata is following in Korean Beauty’s footsteps so her next step is an Essence. Toner is different than Essence. Toner is usually the last part of cleaning the face. Essence, on the other hand, is a liquid treatment that gets your skin ready to enhance and amplify the next step, the serum. In other words, to tone is to correct, to use essence is to soften and hydrate the skin.
Tata’s Hydrating Floral Essence contains 19 active ingredients, including hyalorinic acid.
After Essence we each received a small dot of Restorative Eye Cream.
