In row after row of neutral eye shadows in Sephora, I spotted a box of fun! Kat Von D’s Limited Edition Eye Shadow Palette Serpentina ($45) is not the same old-same old! In fact, this eye shadow palette isn’t even like any of the other Kat Von D palettes! Kat Von D was inspired by the Essence of Ancient Egypt and the Great Queen herself, Cleopatra. Ancient Egypt ‘s opulence and beauty is captured in the 8 rich jewel- toned pressed shadows,, and the removable jar of loose gold pigment included in the palette.
The pressed colors are signature Kat Von D. They are triple milled and highly pigmented eye shadows whose formula delivers instant, true-color-payoff. They feel like silk, and are easy to blend. The finishes can be layered, mixed and matched for a more dimensional look.
The shades are :
Bloodmilk – a matte Brick Red
Medusa – A shimmer Bronze
Ankh – a matte Black with Gold shimmer
Queen – A Rust glitter
Hieroglyph- a Copper shimmer
Nile – an Ocean-Blue shimmer
Scarab – an Emerald Green shimmer
Venom – a matte Royal Purple
and the loose pigment is PROPHET – a “fool’s gold”

I love these colors so much I could just keep on swatchin’ ! The Prophet gold loose pigment (right above) really takes Serpentina to the next level. You can really channel your inner Egyptian Queen gilding your eye lids with the pigment, flecking your brows with it, and just having fun with it. And with those jewel-tones what rich eye looks you are able to create! It can add a pop to any look you’re creating.
The packaging is equally gorgeous. The palette is a royal size, and the mirror inside is as large as the palette itself! The jar holding the loose gold pigment is removable, and transportable on it’s own and you can use it with any of your other palettes. It has a screw on lid.
What I love about Kat Von D’s Serpentina eye shadow palette ……..is every single thing about it is fit for a queen. I am madly in love with the colors that are not only gorgeous colors, they are rich in pigment! They are rich and creamy colors that go on smoothly. If you want more intense color-wet you brush and the intense, rich full color lasts and lasts!
It doesn’t crease. It wears all day and all night, until the minute you have to wash them off to get into bed! This palette is perfect for the Fall! Use it for ultimate versatility.And in the great sea of neutral tranquility, this palette can add the pop you need to any look you are creating. It is a fun palette to add to your neutral collection! I think Cleopatra herself would be proud to own this, I know Elizabeth Taylor would be overjoyed with this palette. A little tidbit of information -it is said that Elizabeth Taylor herself applied her own makeup for the filming of Cleopatra. Elizabeth Taylor did an incredible job portraying Cleopatra as the most beautiful woman in history. To this day, when we think of Cleopatra, we think of her as that image of beauty. However, in truth, her most powerful qualities were her intelligence and self-creation. She was the original pioneering woman!
