The Urban Decay Vice story continues with the newest addition : Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipsticks at Sephora ($18) (they have 20 shades) and Urban Decay.com for the complete collection of 30 shades. If lipstick is your vice, and you already love the 100 shades of Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks, and you love liquid lipsticks for their long wear time, rich pigments, and waterproof capabilities, these Vice Liquid Lipsticks are a must.

The Vice liquid lipsticks come in two formulas : Comfort Matte and Metallized. The Comfort Matte is supposed to “feel as good as it looks.” The Metallized formula is supposed to “hold heavy loads of pearls and glitter.”

The Vice Liquid Lipstick is packaged in a clear tube with gunmetal lid, and gold accents. It is very attractive. I love the applicator. It has an extremely long, doe foot that looks like a long, flocked paddle. It has a flat edge which is great for fast application, and complete coverage. It has a precision tip which is perfect for lining your lips and applying color to your “more intricate spots” such as the corners of your mouth and your Cupid’s bow.

I purchased five shades: Firebird, Conspiracy, 714, Amulet, and Crimson. I wanted to experience a variety of shades, which range from neutrals to bold brights, and the two formulas. There is a wonderful range of shades in the collection, a shade for everyone, for sure!

Here is the thing…Liquid lipsticks are supposed to be long-wearing, richly pigmented, water and no-transfer proof. They will never feel as comfortable as when you wear the creamy, dreamy feeling and the comfort as the Vice lipstick formula. However, the trade off is, as creamy, dreamy and comfortable as the Vice lipsticks feel, they will never wear as long, or be waterproof, nor will they have the “no transfer” element that the Vice Liquid Lipsticks have. To have all of the benefits of the liquid lipstick formula, you will have to expect that you’re lips will feel a little drier than if you were wearing a regular cream lipstick. To rectify the drier feeling, make sure you hydrate your lips at night, with a lip balm, or a lip mask that puts moisture back into your lips. It’s never a good idea to put liquid lipstick on dry, chapped lips to begin with, the liquid will dry and accentuate the look of your dry, chapped lips.

The Vice Liquid Lipstick has a lightweight, thin, watery texture. You can not just glop it on, or it will look horrible. Following the directions that Urban Decay describes, and you will have beautiful lips. The directions for application :
#1 Line your lips with the precision tip of the doe foot applicator.
#2 Apply one coat to fill in your lips with the flat side of the applicator
#3 LET DRY AND DO NOT, REPEAT DO NOT PRESS YOUR LIPS TOGETHER
remember a little goes a long way, however, if you want more opaqueness …
#4 When lips have dried, apply a second coat with the flat side of the applicator
#5 LET DRY AND DO NOT, REPEAT DO NOT PRESS YOUR LIPS TOGETHER – KEEP LIPS APART WHEN DRYING!
if you do press your lips together before coats one or two have dried completely, your lips will feel sticky and tacky!!!!!! And then you will hate the lipstick, when in fact, the success of the formula is all in the application!
My choices :

Top to Bottom : Conspiracy, Amulet, 714, Crimson, Firebird
Firebird – a deep fuchsia comfort matte

714 – a bright red comfort matte

Amulet – a brick-rose comfort matte

Crimson – a rich red comfort matte

Conspiracy- a metallic plum-bronze shimmer metallized

The formula varies from from shade to shade. The metallized formula is more transparent, and definitely needs more than one layer. I also noticed a feeling of tiny bits of glitter in the metallized formula. Another problem I encountered is that once the liquid lipstick was applied, it was difficult to correct any mistakes I made, and when I tried, I made the situation look even worse than my mistake. I ultimately had to take the lipstick off, (with waterproof makeup remover) , and start over again. So – you only have a tiny little window of time to fix an application mistake. I also wore the liquid lipstick to a party, and sipping cocktails was great – there was no transfer onto the glass, or kissing someone’s cheek. After eating dinner, I felt I needed to reapply the lipstick. There is definitely inconsistencies in the performance of each liquid lipstick with regard to their color. It seems that a lot of the shades perform differently .
What do you think about the New Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipsticks? Would you try the liquid lipsticks or stick with the creamier Vice Lipsticks instead? Please tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
