Lucia Pica, Chanel’s Global Creative Makeup and Color Designer, took a 5 day road trip to “get a collection of colors taken straight from California’s “most beautiful elements”. By the end of the first day, Pica started getting nervous, because she thought “everything started to look similar-until nightfall, when there was an explosion of color.” The bright lights of downtown Los Angeles inspired much of this year’s Chanel Makeup Collection for Fall/Winter, and the high-shine reflection of the LA river inspired the creation of two new shades in the Ombre Premiere Creme Shadow Collection ($36 each)
.
The new Ombre Premiere Longwear Cream Eyeshadows are #818 Urban- a limited edition blue shade that looks very much like the murky water of the LA River, and #820 Memory, a champagne shade that looks like the areas that have dried up in the LA River.

The murky waters reminded Pica of “petrol oil spills,” which was the inspiration for Ombre Premiere Shade #818, Urban, a Limited Edition grayish-blue shade. The dried, sandy-looking areas of the river inspired Pica to create Ombre Premiere Shade #820, Memory, a beautiful, unusual shade of champagne.

The two new shades, Urban and Memory are totally wearable. The Ombre Premiere Cream Eyeshadows are long-wearing. Their texture is smooth and creamy. They glide on easily, either with your fingertips, or with the rounded brush applicator that is included.

I think the concept for developing new makeup shades in the case of the Fall/Winter Chanel Makeup Collection is interesting from the viewpoint of a makeup lover who sees only the finished product in a store.

Pica was personally involved in an adventure, a road trip from Los Angeles, to Big Sur, and back to Los Angeles in hopes of finding color inspiration by “gathering a collection of colors taken from California’s most beautiful elements”.

Pica believes that “luxury today doesn’t necessarily mean something has to be expensive. History and authenticity is what Luxury means in today’s world.
