Kevin Aucoin Featherlights Palette

Eye ShadowsEyesFace

The Featherlights Palette by Kevin Aucoin for Spring 2016 is a limited edition, five colored palette that was inspired by Spring 2016 Fashion Week. It is available at Neiman Marcus ($58).  The intention of the palette is to highlight, contour, define and accentuate your eyes.  The five natural shades give eyes a feather light ethereal look.

The colors are made from high quality silky powder.  The powder is finely milled which creates the luxurious creamy texture of the shadows.  It also makes the shadows easy to blend.    The colors not overly pigmented, nor are they overwhelming.   And, they are far from vibrant.  They are along the lines of  the Pantone colors for this spring: calming, peaceful, comforting and muted.

I really had to play with these colors, blending them together to achieve a look that I would like.  They are too sheer and muted for me on their own.  Once I began blending them together, I was able to build the color to make the palette work . To be completely honest with you, I like this palette the least of all the Kevin Aucoin products I own- I’m just not impressed with the feather lights colors which are kind of boring to me.  There are so many more exciting palettes out there.  And most of them are a lot less money.

How would you use the palette? I would use the buttery cream shade all over the eye, like an eye primer.  Next I would put the iridescent pink all over the lid.  Put the cool brown in the crease.  Put the mid-toned palm-green with shimmer in the outer corner of the eye.  Use the dark brownish-charcoal color as a liner. You have to play with the colors and be a little daring………you really will need to experiment on yourself!

  • The palette 01 from the permanent line is my favorite, one of the best “neutral/nude” palettes that I have (and I have hundreds of super high-end palettes). It is very balanced between cool/warm and is very easy to apply. Also it is not fully matte, has a satin finish.

    • Jane, thank you so much for sharing your favorite palette from Kevyn Aucoin. Since you love super high-end palettes, have you ever tried any of Natasha Denona’s products? I have never experienced an eye shadow that is better than hers. Her palettes have a wide range of color, with matte, shimmer, satin, metallic and duo-chrome finishes. They are extremely pigmented. Her formula is exquisite, the shadows feel like cashmere, and they go on like silk. I promise you if you haven’t tried them already, when you do you will be as obsessed with them as I am. I am sending you a link to her website, Natasha Denona.com.
