The ombre lip can be created with varying shades in the same color family. The ombre you create can be subtle,  or you can create a full-on ombre lip , including two or more colors where the colors  that ombre are different tones, and they either ombre horizontally, across the lip, or vertically, from top lip to bottom lip.

The two-toned ombre lip works because two tones subtly contour the mouth. The darker shade around the periphery adds definition, and a slightly softer on in the center reflects light and creates the illusion of fuller, juicier lips.  The key here is to use two shades in the same color family.  They need to gradually fade into each other for an ombre effect.

How To Do An Ombre Lip

Step 1 – prime your lips with a lip balm.  You want your lips to be hydrated, not slippery and apply a concealer over your lips to hide the natural color of your lips

Step 2- Using a Lip Liner, start at the Cupid’s Bow and draw this first when you begin your line – then draw in the rest using the liner on the top lip.  On the bottom lip slide the pencil from one corner to the other corner.  Add more of the lip liner to corners of your lips, which brings the dark in a bit towards the middle.  BUT DO NOT COLOR ALL OF YOUR LIPS. What you can do is extend this line and thicken the top and bottom of your lips if you want!ombre-lips-step-1-use-a-dark-shade-pencil-outline-lips-and-cover corners-on-bottom

Step 3 – Feather the liner inward to make it last longer and look more natural – You want a curved, full lip that is round and luscious.

Step 4 – Using a stiff brush, apply the lighter shade going across the bottom middle of your  lip with your brush where the lips do not have the darker lip liner on them), and then press your lips together and pull them apart in one smooth motion, and the excess color will transfer from the bottom lip to the top. ombre-lips-how-to-do-a-flawless-lip-ombre Leave the corners and the edges to stay a bit more matte and dry.  This technique makes the look more long-lasting because you are relying on the dry pencil to HOLD THE SHAPE.  The lipstick would smear off. ombre-lips-outline-lips-with-a-dark-pencil-feather-it-in-and-apply-light-shade-in-center So, you need to keep the center of the lips moist with the lipstick , and you keep it crisp on the outside where the liner is.Go over your work with the lip pencil.  Add another feathered line of pencil and go over what you’ve already done, but do it softly (not a harsh line) and use the pencil, and/or a Q-tip or a lip brush to blend between the two tones, blending the edges of your colors together to create a fading effect.

This is another way to get a pale highlight in the center of your lips using either a pale nude lipstick or a stick of concealer to do the job!  Use a small lip brush and blend the nude color in with the pink on the out edges to create a gradient ombre effect.  You can finish using a natural pink gloss in the center of your lips if you want.

The quickest and easiest way to do an ombre lip is to put any color lipstick you like on your entire lip.  Using white cream paint, and your finger  tap on the white cream paint in the center of the lip.  Tap the white cream close to the center using three taps of the white paint.  Then press your lips together to blend the white paint into the colored lipstick that is already all over your lips!
